Love Story

Her side ::

My story of meeting Grant begins when I was just 14 years old. I was not "boy crazy" at all, but I kept seeing this cute blonde kid everywhere! He did not go to my high school, but I thought he was the cutest boy I had ever seen. I would see him at stake dances, student council conferences, and other activities, but I was too shy to say anything. I had the biggest crush on this boy, and he didn't even know that I existed! I had no idea that this cute, blonde kid would someday be my future husband.

The summer of 2008, I went to EFY with some friends. Guess who was there?! Yes, Grant Boyd. We always happened to be in the same places at the same time. Some of my friends and I decided to try out for the variety show by singing "Everything" by Michael Buble. We called up a couple cute boys in the audience. I, along with many of my other friends, wanted to call up Grant Boyd. We sang to Grant in front of the whole audience, and he still didn't notice me!

Finally, at the New Years Eve stake dance 2008, I got him to notice me. My friend and I were asked at the dance to pass around poppers and blowers to everyone for the new year. We thought it was the perfect opportunity to talk to Grant. We went up to him and offered him a popper. All I remember was he was surrounded by girls. We began talking with him and counted down the new year with him. After our countdown, a slow song came on. Out of all the girls surrounding him, he asked me to dance! I was head over heels happy. I felt a spark. I was only 15 years old, but I felt a connection to him. It was like I had known him my whole life! Conversation was so easy and we had so many things in common. I loved the way he made me feel. We made sure to exchange emails and phone numbers. I was floating on Cloud 9. The story gets even better...I walked away from dancing with him and I had the distinct impression that I had just met my future husband. I came home and told my mom that. I am thankful that the spirit gave me that little prompting. Who would have known that just 6 years down the road, he would become my husband and I would be Mrs. Boyd?

Our story does not end there. All throughout high school, we were the best of friends. He was my number 1. All I wanted to do was hang out with Grant. We went on tons of dates and did so many fun activities together. He was my first date and my first kiss.

His side:

I remember the first time I met my darling sweetheart Katie when I was 15 years old. It was a cold New Years Eve night of 2008 as me, my older brother, and a couple of my buddies went to a New Years Eve dance. It was such a blast dancing and getting to know new people. There were many people that I had met and danced with but there was only one that had truly caught my eye. Her name was Katie Coon, the girl of my dreams. I remember that I was talking to a group of friends as the dance was climbing to the end of the night, when all of a sudden, a beautiful blonde with an adorable smile came up to me and my friend. She was standing with a friend of hers. They came up to us and asked "would you guys like a blower for the midnight count down." I was in shock not knowing what to say or do so I said "yes." All of a sudden a slow dance began to play and I quickly reacted to the feelings I had and asked her "would you care to dance with me?" To my surprise she said "yes that would be great." With a beautiful smile on her face we began to dance to the song, "I'll be" by Edward McCain. As we began to dance it felt as if the whole world had been spun into slow motion. It was truly the greatest slow dance I had ever danced to with a girl. I couldn't believe how much we had in common. We both had the same likes, and she and I both did not have cell phones. At this time I had never met a girl without a cell phone and I was so impressed. As the song came to a close, I came back down from cloud 9. All I could think was how in the world did that song go by so fast. Just as this thought came to mind, another slow dance began to play. "YES!!" I thought to myself this is my chance, so I decided to ask her to dance again. She was delighted and we danced on through the night. After the slow dances we counted down to the new year... "3, 2,1 happy new year!" A new year had begun, but little did I know then that this night would be the start of a life that never could be sweeter, and never could be better. Now almost 7 years later I can say with out a doubt, that Katie is my rock and sweetest companion. She is my greatest friend and will always be my sweetheart.

As I left that New Years Eve stake dance I knew I had found someone incredibly special and dear. For weeks and months afterwards I could not get the image of her beautiful smile out of my head. She was my cinderella that had left the ball without her slipper. We began to email back and forth, but it wasn't until the next year that we truly began our journey. On her 16th birthday party she invited me and my buddies to go to the lake with all of her friends. It was such a blast and it was the first time that I met all of her family. I fell in love with them the first time I met them. Her parents were so nice and were glad I was there. From this day forward I have truly looked up to each of them.

I made sure that I was the first to ask her on her first date. We planned a incredible seasons date at my house where we would go through each of the years seasons, winter, summer, fall and spring. Everything was set and I was ready to go as I approached her house. Little did I know that Brother Coon had prepared a little something up his sleeve when I arrived. As I entered the house I found that him and his son were cleaning there guns for me. His first words were, "So I heard that you wanted to take my girl on a date." haha!! I thought it was so great and we all talked for a little while after.
